Here it is Feb. 15. 2007. It took me over half a year to come back to my blog. I could provide excuses like my military duties in Iraq but I ain’t in the military. I could feign that a catastrophic illness that had me bed laden all these months unable to reach out and touch my computer. I could also pretend a financial downfall eliminated all frills like Internet access from home but there is after all the library. No, the real reason – I was off getting lost in space and it was all not sufficiently compelling enough to deserve being posted for the world to witness.
So let’s begin over again.
I am a female coder who works for a big corporation. Let me be more specific, I am an old in the tooth (read over 50) female wannabe coder that churns out half-baked stuff for a large corporation. On occasions I am good. Most of the time I am so-so. I am mostly coasting and waiting for the next career choice to make itself known to me before my job gets outsourced….hey wait….my job was outsourced! I have been working with a group of mostly guys in Bangalore, India trying to pass the baton to them so I can get to the unemployment line as soon as possible (I am sure that will force me to make a career choice). Now I think I can brag that I am good teacher. I have been teaching on the side for many years now and the guys from India have been very kind in passing the word around that I am a good teacher. The only problem I see is that the boys and girls in India think it is all about coding but 80% (maybe more) is being a subject matter expert. In my case, that would be in the area of routers. Hey wait …I am actually unhappy to report that my job has been recently insourced. That is, the corporation I work for realized that you can’t have the work being done by people who just recently got their diplomas and that knowledge in the area of telecommunications far outweigh knowing what Web 2.0 stands for. Lucky me. Actually, I am not so lucky….but I will explain that tomorrow or the next time I come back to blog….hopefully it won’t be six month from now.
